Student Life
The Zane State College paralegal program requires two full years, including a summer quarter, and a total of 105 quarter hours for an associate degree in business, in the paralegal assisting technology. The program includes several paralegal courses, as well as general education and business courses. It’s important that students apply themselves in all courses, and that they particularly apply themselves in English courses.

Writing well is the primary paralegal skill. Students must learn to think analytically and to convey their analysis coherently in writing. Writing is never easy, but it can be learned with dedicated determination. It is so important that each paralegal course emphasizes writing, analysis and logic and requires preparation of lengthy and relatively complex legal documents. Rest assured, students receive exacting classroom instruction and detailed assistance. Every document receives the instructor’s attention, along with constructive assistance. If a student does not enjoy either reading or writing, however, the law would not be a realistic career choice.

Students will also take several computer application courses and learn the latest office software. Students will quickly learn to prepare assigned documents on computers and to use the latest technology, and will soon learn their way around campus to exploit its many computer resources. Students who avail themselves of Zane State College’s instructional and computer resources typically excel.

Paralegal Club
Extracurricular paralegal activities include an active paralegal club. The club has journeyed to Washington, D.C. and Columbus, Ohio for tours of courts, legislatures, government offices, and for lectures from government officials, as well as, for meetings with practicing paralegals. Students are encouraged to join a professional Columbus, Ohio paralegal association, “PACO,” and to attend it's Columbus meetings.
