A new way of learning … College Tech Prep is a program that begins in the 11th grade of high school and continues through college at a two-year or four-year college. Students get to combine college preparatory classes with technical, career-based learning in the career labs at area schools.
A way to save money & time … Students get to earn college credits (for free!) while in high school and reduce the amount of time (and money) needed to finish their associate’s degree in college.
A career plan that interests you … Students learn more when they have an interest in what they are taught in the classroom and in the labs. If a certain career field interests you, start early and get ready for your future!
Who do I contact for more information? If you are in middle school, talk to your parents and guidance counselors about your options. How do I enroll? During your 10th grade year, you should visit the career center or talk with the College Tech Prep teacher at your high school (look at the programs information below to find out more). Ask your guidance counselor for any applications that you must complete.
What classes should I take in middle school to prepare for College Tech Prep? You should work with your guidance counselor to make sure you select the right courses for you; however, in general, College Tech Prep students should take Algebra I while in middle school. If you are interested in a health program, students should take Biology. Every student should work closely with the guidance office to plan his or her coursework.
What is the curriculum? College Tech Prep programs teach career related information. This helps you learn the most important information for your career field while you are in high school and when you continue at college. You’ll get to learn by using state of the art equipment in the labs and you’ll also learn important academics such as algebra, reading, writing, and science.
