Sustainable Agriculture

The Sustainable Agriculture Technology program enables you to develop the skills necessary to attain a career or secondary income from agriculture management or production. The Sustainable Agriculture degree focuses on the production and marketing of traditional and non-traditional crops and animals using methods that are economically efficient and favorable, socially responsible, and environmentally friendly.

This degree includes such courses as soil science, equipment operation, and forestry, as well as several business’ related courses.

Concentrations

The Sustainable Agriculture Technology program includes the choice of two concentrations: Management or Production. Both concentrations have several courses in common; however, coursework in business management and marketing techniques are emphasized in the Sustainable Agriculture - Management concentration. Crop and animal sciences comprise the core of the Sustainable Agriculture - Production concentration.

Program Outcomes

Upon completion of the Sustainable Agriculture program, you will be able to:

• Identify, develop, and practice traditional and alternative agricultural methods.

• Identify, develop, and practice the specific knowledge and skills that are required for careers in Sustainable Agriculture management. (Management Concentration).

• Develop the specific knowledge and skills that are required for careers in Sustainable Agriculture production (Production Concentration).

• Have an opportunity as a landowner to increase profits, provide better environmental stewardship, and enhance the local community.
 

Career Opportunities

Career opportunities include traditional and modern (organic, niche) farm markets; agricultural sales; and agricultural production management.
