RAD Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility Requirements
The number of students accepted into the Radiologic Technology program is limited. Students applying to the Radiologic Technology program must meet all of the general requirements of Zane State College and additional requirements listed below. Evidence of meeting these requirements must be submitted to the Radiologic Program Director by April 1, of the application year.

  1. Completion of high school and/or previous college work with a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. A grade of C or better should be evident for Biology and Algebra (or their equivalent) at the high school level. (Evidence: High school transcript, GED report, college transcript)
       
  2. Completion of the College’s ACCUPLACER test. The student must place into college-level work to be admitted to the technology. If the student places into pre-college level work, the student must be able to complete the pre-college work prior to the time they would be admitted to the technology.   3. Completion of the Health Occupational Aptitude Exam. The Health Occupational Aptitude Exam is scheduled through the Student Success Center and offered periodically throughout the year. To schedule this exam please contact the Student Success Center at (740) 454-2501 Ext. 1261. To be considered for admission, students must earn a composite score of 40 on the Health Occupations Aptitude Exam.
     
  4. Participation in a preliminary meeting with the radiologic program faculty. This meeting is to provide the student with basic information on the technology and is used to establish the student’s plans for applying to the technology and serves as a means to advise students in any course work they may pursue prior to entering the technology.
     
  5. Completion of a 12-hour hospital radiology observation. This will be discussed during the preliminary meeting described above. (Evidence: Hospital Observation form)
     
  6. Completion of a 2 page autobiographical sketch. This should include why the applicant is interested in the radiologic program at this time and relate any experience the applicant has had working with the public or in health care. Some preference is given to applicants with experience working with the public or in health care as part of a formal job or as volunteer experience.
     
  7. An initial screening of application materials will be made based upon academic material submitted. Selected applicants may be asked to participate in a formal interview. Selection for interviews will be based upon the following criteria: a) preparedness to enter college-level course work, b) academic performance rank as compared with other applicants for the same year, c) compliance with all minimum qualifications for admission to the radiologic technology program.
     
  8. Applicants who read, write, and speak English as a second language must demonstrate proficiency in English skills.
     
  9. Selected applicants must submit the results of a complete physical examination by a physician (forms provided) to be considered for final acceptance.
     
  10. Selected applicants must submit a release form to be considered for final acceptance.
     
  11. Selected applicants must begin the Hepatitis B vaccine series prior to beginning the radiologic program clinical curriculum.
     
  12. In the event a student does not meet the requirements for admission, the student may be granted admission with the recommendation of the Program Director if there is evidence of academic maturity and independence.

Physical Requirements
If a student needs accommodation to perform these tasks, it is the responsibility of the student to provide formal documentation of the disability so his or her needs can be met.

  • Hear faint sounds from a distance of 15 feet.
     
  • Far vision correctable to 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other.
     
  • Lift 20 lbs. from the floor, carry 10 feet and place on a surface 36" high.
     
  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
     
  • Push / Pull One to 20 lbs. force continuously, 20 to 50 lbs. force occasionally, and 50 to 75 lbs. force rarely.
     
  • Work with arms overhead for 15 to 20 minutes at a time.
     
  • Speak with sufficient clarity to be understood by patients and personnel.
     
  • Manipulate all radiographic / fluoroscopic equipment in all modes.
