Mission and Vision Statement

At Zane State College, we have a singular focus – helping our students succeed. That focus is why ZSC has had the best graduation rate among Ohio’s community colleges for the past ten years and is also among the very best in the nation!

Zane State has been a fixture in the community since 1969. Over the past half a century, ZSC’s more than 13,000 graduates have helped to shape our communities and our region. Through our employees, our students, and our alumni, Zane State has an annual economic impact of just over $140 Million.

From the adult worker seeking additional education, to the high school student beginning college early through Ohio’s College Credit Plus program, we believe that a college education should be within reach for everyone. With fully online degrees to traditional classroom course formats, we strive to foster a positive learning experience and accommodate our students’ busy calendars with affordable, flexible courses. As a result, when we asked students to list what they loved most about Zane State College, our professors, cost, and classmates rose to the top of most appreciated aspects.

This is a time of significant transition for higher education and Zane State College. More than ever before, we are serving a broad range of students with diverse educational needs. To help close the regional skills gap, we are creating short-term, non-degree certificate options, while at the same time, we are addressing a workforce shortage by launching a highly-applied technical baccalaureate degree. In other words, our mission of “Empowering people through education” is expanding in both directions.

With this in mind, I, alone, was not willing to articulate a vision for the campus. Rather, I shared the College’s goals for the future. In return, I asked our campus community to work together to develop a vision statement that everyone could support. Zane State College is here for the long haul, and my only request was that the vision statement remain relevant and can evolve over time. Five years in the making, we achieved our goal by creating this vision statement: A Promising Future for Every One.

This is a “living” vision that will mature over time. The word “promising” was selected by our employees for the coming year. Our campus community plans to change that word as the needs of our community change. You might also have looked twice at how we spelled “every one.” This was intentional. When we finalized the vision, we considered every community we serve, every employee, every Zane State College student, and every interaction that takes place on a daily basis between every one of us. Every one.

Moving forward, you will see this image used throughout campus and in our communications. I wanted this to serve as a reminder as to why each of us is here. And that there is always hope of “A promising future for every one.”
