Medical Lab Program: 100% Exam pass rate, 100% Job placement rate

A blog post by Medical Laboratory Technician Program Director Lucy Rucker, MHA, BS, MLS (ASCP)CM for incoming Medical Laboratory Technician Students:

Hello Associate of Science students!

I am the director of the MLT program at ZSC and wanted to let you know about it. Most people have never heard of this career option since we are “behind the scenes” healthcare workers. There are options to move up within the clinical laboratory and make a career of it, or it can be a great stepping stone career if you want to pursue physician assistant, pathologist assistant, or perfusionist school. Attached is my program’s course of study (COS).MLTP_COS_22_23.pdf

I am still accepting online Selective Health Applications (login to myZSC, click on “Academics” at the top, then “Selective Health Application” on the left menu) for enrollment into my program for Fall Semester 2023! The Medical Laboratory Technician website is https://www.zanestate.edu/programs/medical-laboratory/. Some highlights about MLTP:

  • Behind-the-scenes healthcare heroes
  • Test blood, body fluids, and other patient specimens to diagnose and treat patients
  • Little to no direct patient contact
  • Laboratory test results guide 70% of medical decisions!
  • Subjects include Hematology, Microbiology, Immunology, Chemistry, and Blood Bank
  • MLTs use both complex instruments and manual methods, such as microscopes, to test samples
  • Students spend most of the last semester in a hospital laboratory, training alongside MLTs/MLSs
  • Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!
  • 100% Exam pass rate, 100% Job placement rate
  • Once an MLT, are many fully online programs to pursue a bachelor’s degree (MLS)

If you still need to register for classes, here is the link to sign up for a registration event: Welcome to ZSC – Zane State College. You can also make an appointment with a success coach who can help you register if you need a different registration date:  https://www.zanestate.edu/academics/successcoaches/

Please email me with any questions if you want to change your major to MLTP or learn more about the program. I look forward to hearing from you!”
