As a Zane State College student, you’ll learn to acquire, analyze, and protect digital and traditional medical information vital to providing quality patient care. This career combines knowledge and skills from medicine, information management, business applications and computer technology. 

Along the way you will have the opportunity for practical experience in a real clinical setting, and you’ll take classes in: anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, technical writing, legal aspects in health care, pharmacology and pathophysiology, software applications, health care information technology and systems, and more. 

With this degree, you will be in high demand. According to the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services, health information technicians constitute one of the fastest growing occupations throughout the state. This program is an excellent choice for immediate post-high school education, re-entry into the workforce, or a career change alternative. Graduates of our programs work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, long-term care facilities, physician offices, home health agencies, insurance companies, and government agencies.

This nationally accredited program, which is now offered online, is taught by industry professionals who want to teach you all they know. If you are ready for a career, and want a challenge of the fast-changing health care field, the Health Information Management degree is for you. As an HIMT student, you will have support and freedom to succeed. Take classes that fit your schedule, and gain real-world clinical experience through practicum-based learning. Upon graduating from the HIMT program, you are eligible to sit for the Registered Health Information Technician certification. This means, you can jump straight into your bachelor’s degree as a junior. 

With additional work experience, you may also be eligible for other certifications including the Certified Coding Associate, Certified Coding Specialist, and Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based.

The associate degree Health Information Management program at Zane State College is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).

Results from the 2021 survey indicate 100% agreement that the program helped graduates acquire the skills and knowledge to perform as a Health Information Technology Professional and that their overall academic experience met or exceeded their expectations.

  • Our program prepares students for a variety of healthcare careers utilizing health information management knowledge and skills. Recent graduate survey results reflect 89% of Zane State College HIMT graduates were employed in healthcare related positions.

The Health Information Management accreditor of Zane State College is the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).
