Dr. John R. Crooks

Candidate Crooks

Dr. John R. Crooks currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer for Eastern Gateway Community College. He provides leadership to more than 45,000 students. In his role, Dr. Crooks provides leadership for courses offered in Steubenville and Youngstown through College Credit Plus and online. Since his arrival, the college has added Social Work and Veterinary Technician associate degrees.

Prior to Eastern Gateway Community College, Dr. Crooks was the Associate Provost at Lorain County Community College from 2006 to 2020. He also served as the Dean of Science and Mathematics and was the Director of Distance Learning.

Dr. Crooks also has served as an Associate Professor in Biology and Department Chair of Science, Mathematics and Computer Science at Iowa Wesleyan College. He started his academic career at Arkansas State University-Beebe.

Dr. Crooks received his BS and MS degrees in Biology from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University), and his PhD in Biology from Bowling Green State University. He is a life member of the Missouri Academy of Science, the Ohio Academy of Science, and Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society and is an active reviewer for publications and organizations.
