Dr. Michael Deibel is currently the Interim Dean of the Faculty and the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs at Earlham College. He leads the EPIC Centers and Programs in these roles, serving as the lead project manager for the EPIC Journey (Earlham’s signature program). He works on matters related to the hiring and evaluation of teaching faculty, overseeing relevant budgets, and serving on the President’s Cabinet. Previously, he served as the co-Director of the Center for Global Health and the Director of the Integrated Program in Health Sciences.
Dr. Deibel has been passionate about community engagement and partnership throughout his career. He has pursued innovative programs, such as a Community Medicine program and a Quality Science minor. In addition, Dr. Deibel has led multiple institutional grants, the most recent one focusing on implementing a 4-year vocational discernment program built on the book Designing Your Life.
Dr. Deibel holds a bachelor’s in both Chemistry and Mathematics from Capital University. He earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Kentucky and has been a long-time member of the teaching faculty at Earlham College. His current research has focused on the use of portable instrumentation for environmental and archaeological analyses. Recent projects have included the determination of lead (Pb) contamination in soils, analyses of Chinese pottery and jade, and pigment analyses of Egyptian coffins in Richmond, Indiana.
Dr. Deibel has established himself as a leader in health professions advising, serving for the past ten years on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions, and currently serving as its President. He has also served on several boards in the Richmond community and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Amigos Latino Center.
