Accounting

When you think of accounting, you may picture cubicles full of Certified Public Accountants fluttering through paperwork and filing your tax return in a rush at the end of tax season. While this is understandable, accounting also plays a significant role in daily life. You may have already applied many accounting principles in everything you do, like working on a home improvement budget, vacation, or back-to-school shopping. Basic accounting skills allow us to keep our financial lives on track. If this is something you find exciting or enjoyable, a career in accounting may be for you.

As an accounting student, you will learn to perform accounting functions, record and verify transactions, prepare payrolls, monitor inventory, prepare financial statements, and analyze financial information. The demand for accounting personnel continues to increase. Graduates are employed as bookkeepers, staff accountants, tax preparers, compilers of financial information, cost accountants, and financial analysts.

Not only will Zane State College’s Accounting program prepare you for a public, business, or governmental accounting career, you will have the opportunity to leverage our partnerships with Muskingum and Franklin Universities and go on to complete a more advanced degree. Muskingum University has a pathway from ZSC to their Accounting-Public degree. You can complete the required accounting and most business courses necessary for the CPA exam, then transfer to the Accounting-Public program at Muskingum and finish up the 150-credit hour requirement. This is a definite cost-saving path. Or, Franklin University offers a Pathway to MBA program that takes your accounting work at Zane State and applies it toward completing your bachelor’s and then master’s degree.

Highlights

100% of graduates are employed or enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program within six months of graduation (or both!)
